 Basic Principles of Learning Forms

  • Students must have perfected each form before moving on to the next.

  • You must begin and end at exactly the same spot.

  • Pay careful attention to maintaining the correct posture and stance throughout the form.

  • Forms should be preformed with a rhythmic movement, never stiffly.

  • Students must understand the purpose and correct application of each movement in the form.

  • Continually practice all previously learned forms in addition to your present form. Much can be learned by reviewing the beginning forms.

  • Strive to make each technique clear and defined.

  • Concentrate on achieving accuracy in the techniques, then build up speed.
  • The written interpretation of each form should be learned by heart.
